The Junior Colour Encyclopedia of Space – Red Dwarf ‘Queeg’ Prop Recreation – Full 140-Page Colour Book
Recreate one of the most memorable visual gags from Red Dwarf Series 2 with this full, physical recreation of The Junior Colour Encyclopedia of Space, the book seen in the classic episode “Queeg.”
In the episode, Holly’s competence is called into question and he claims that his vast knowledge comes from a battered children’s space encyclopedia – including the answer to that most demanding of astronomical questions: “What’s the closest planet to the Sun?”
Rather than simply reproducing the cover as a novelty prop, this edition has been created as a complete, in-universe encyclopedia. Open it up and it functions as the sort of book the Red Dwarf prop was always meant to be: a substantial, colourful junior reference book devoted to planets, space, astronomy and the Solar System.
The result is a display piece that does not stop being convincing when you open the cover.
A complete in-universe Red Dwarf prop recreation
This is a proper 140-page, full-colour encyclopedia, designed to capture the appearance and spirit of the book seen on screen while expanding it into a complete physical publication.
The distinctive black cover, white and yellow typography, spacecraft illustrations and astronaut artwork recreate the instantly recognisable look of the book associated with Holly in Queeg.
Inside, the book contains fully designed colour encyclopedia pages covering space and astronomy, giving it the weight, thickness and appearance of a genuine vintage children’s reference book rather than an empty prop or notebook.

More than just a replica cover
Many prop recreations are designed purely for display. This version has been made so that it still works when somebody picks it up and starts turning the pages.
The interior has been developed as a genuine junior encyclopedia of astronomy, with colourful illustrated pages. That makes it particularly effective as an in-universe Red Dwarf collectible: something that looks as though it could genuinely have existed aboard the mining ship rather than simply being a printed photograph of the television prop.
And, naturally, should anybody need to know which planet is closest to the Sun, this book has them covered.
An unusual Red Dwarf gift
This reproduction makes an unusual gift for anyone who remembers the early BBC series and wants something considerably more obscure than the usual merchandise.
It is particularly suited to collectors and fans looking for:
Red Dwarf memorabilia, Red Dwarf gifts, Red Dwarf collectibles, Red Dwarf prop replicas, Queeg memorabilia, Holly Red Dwarf gifts, BBC science-fiction memorabilia, television prop recreations, sci-fi book props, replica TV props, fictional books made real, screen-inspired props, retro science-fiction gifts, British comedy memorabilia and unusual gifts for Red Dwarf fans.
It also makes an excellent shelf or desk display alongside other science-fiction props, replica books, vintage-style encyclopedias and television memorabilia. Interesting to note, The Junior Colour Encyclopedia of Space was also owned by the Seventh Doctor and was among half a dozen paperback books kept within the TARDIS's Jade Pagoda. (Dr Who Episode: Sanctuary)
This recreation takes that fictional object and turns it into something tangible: a real, professionally printed 140-page colour encyclopedia that can actually be held, read and displayed.
Whether it is sitting on a bookshelf waiting for another intelligence test, being added to a collection of Red Dwarf replica props, or being given to somebody who immediately understands the significance of the title, it is designed to look and feel like a genuine book rather than conventional television merchandise.
An unofficial, fan-created in-universe recreation inspired by the fictional book seen in Red Dwarf.

James Bishop has now published over 20 books, from his first two children’s picture books inspired by the adventures he shares with his daughter, Josie, to many more beyond! His first book, My Daddy Rides a Motorbike, began when Josie sat on his motorcycle at just seven months old. A photograph of that moment became the spark for a story, which James developed during the coronavirus pandemic with the help of illustrator and friend Steve Coles. What started as a personal Christmas present for Josie quickly grew into a published book that found an audience among families and motorbike enthusiasts alike.
James has now created book of jokes, memes, colouring and cooking. Whatever your interest, I'm sure there's a book for it!
